A still relatively unknown variety of Japanese green tea in North America, hojicha, also spelled houjicha, is similar to matcha green tea due to its high antioxidant concentrations, but offers a distinct flavour that North American's have been warming up to.

Hojicha, a roasted green tea, originated in Kyoto, Japan in the 1920s when a tea merchant rolled the green tea and roasted it over a charcoal fire. The result was Hojicha: a green tea with notes of a smoky yet sweet taste. Due to it’s naturally inviting aroma and all the benefits of green tea, without any bitter taste, Hojicha’s popularity surged rapidly throughout tea shops in Japan.

We’ve taken Hojicha tea to the next level by micro grounding it in to Hojicha Matcha. Every 1lb of matcha takes about 15 hours to produce.  It's easy to see how this tea is surrounded by 1,500 years of tradition. Pure, clean, refreshing, healthy, rich in antioxidants and lightly astringent.

Preparation: 

1. Scoop half a tea spoon of Matcha into your cup
2. Pour 1oz 165ºF water into cup
3. Whisk, creating a consistent level of foam 
4. Add frothed milk or milk alternative for tea lattes or top with hot water
